Department of Chemistry:

The Department of Chemistry of Cachar College is one of the few departments which were started at the time of opening of the Science Stream in the college. Shri Suranjan Roy joined the department as its first ever lecturer on the 10th of April 1982. The department got affiliated to Gauhati University in the year 1982-83 for Pre-University, 1985-86 for Degree Part I (Pass Course), 1986-87 for Degree Part II (Pass Course) and 1994-95 for Degree (Honours Course). At present, as an integral part of the college, the department is affiliated to Assam Higher Secondary Council, Guwahati for Higher Secondary classes and to Assam University, Silchar for Degree Pass and Honours courses. Till date, two teachers namely, Dr Suranjan Roy and Kabir Hussain superannuated serving in this department. A forum under the name and style ‘Cachar College Chemical Society’ constituted by the students and teachers of the department organizes Popular and Frontier Lectures on Chemistry and chemical sciences and publishes annual magazine ‘Educhem’.
